Bury Older People’s Network Event – 7th June

Dear All,

Myself and another volunteer in the community – Trish Ribchester, have been involved in the Bury Older People’s Network group BOPN, which meets once a month. The purpose of this group is to aim to create better outcomes for our older members of the population of the six townships of Bury –

  • Ensuring that older people have a voice, and that voice is heard.
  • Helping to enable people to have a life that is enjoyable.
  • Helping to enable people (older adults) to live well.
  • Enabling people to do rather than be done to!

Please see the attached flyer advertising an event organised by BOPN and which invites over 50’s to find out things they are entitled to and to have a say in things that matter to them, whether that is about transport, GP access or activity groups, your voice matters.

The event will take place on Wednesday 7th June 10:00am – 3:00pm at The Elizabethan Suite, Bury.

If you would like to attend the event, we would be grateful if you could register by emailing [email protected] and also let us know if you have any dietary requirements.

Kind regards,

Julie Southworth

A fantastic day for Joan and Alistair Waddell

Dear All,

Please see below a message and photo from Joan and Alistair Waddell

______________________________________________________________

Dear All

It is with great gratitude we write to all of you to thank you for all the help and support you have given to Alistair and I since the formation of the GVC 13 years ago.

On Tuesday, we had the great honour to attend The Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace. What a wonderful day. We chatted to The Princess Royal, a yeoman of the guard and The RT Reverend Michael Beasley- what a day.

We shared news of our village group, D-CaFF and Mens Shed groups.

Amazingly our photos have been on the Royal website, SKY and even Hello! – unbelievable.

Truly memorable but we would not have done it without you so WE THANK YOU.

Village Party – Thank you!

Dear All,

I am sending a BIG THANK YOU on behalf of Bob, Tracey, Christine, Neil, John and myself and all our committee members, to the many volunteers who kindly gave up their time to support Greenmount Village Party yesterday.

Whether you made cakes, donated plants and/or tombola prizes, ran the old school café, ran a stall, prepared the church for the Art Exhibition, the Old School for the sale or the village green with event shelters, tables and chairs. All these jobs are vital to the success of this event, and we are always so grateful for the marvellous response we get from our volunteers.

It was lovely to welcome our local associations who provided information, entertainment, activities and food and drink on the day. Wild Souls, Sunnywood Project, Professor Jigget, Obby the Juggler, Tottington Brass Band, Amber Face Painting, The Rotary Club, Holly Mount Orchard, Explorer Scouts, Wildlife Rescue, Greenmount Walking Group, Tottington Civic Society, Greenmount WI, Greenmount Cricket Club, Ice Cream Shop, The Hub Café and Charlie Bakes.

Finally, thank you to all our residents and visitors who turned out to support this event. It was great to see so many people enjoying some family time and catching up with each other. The weather held out too!!

Greenmount Village Walking Group will host an event for the Coronation weekend. There are also ample opportunities to volunteer at a range of groups in the area for The Big Help Out on Monday, 8 May 2023, in tribute to His Majesty The King’s public service, this day is about encouraging people to try volunteering for themselves and join the work being undertaken to support their local areas.

Thank you once again for all your support and I wish you another fabulous bank holiday weekend next week 😊

Kind regards,

Julie Southworth
