Advent Windows 2020

Dear Greenmount Community,

As the Christmas Season is fast approaching, members of Greenmount United Reformed Church and other members of our community have been busy decorating Advent Windows. From the 1st December, as you walk around the village you will begin to see the streets brightening up with displays of various themes from the Twelve Days of Christmas to A Winter Wonderland.

Attached to this email you will find a map with the addresses of 24 houses where you will find a decorated window display. When you follow the map, look for the Angel in each of the numbered windows and find the letter attached, then record it on the sheet provided. Copies of the map are also available in the plastic containers outside church and the Old School.

We hope that you will not only enjoy looking at the windows, but that you will be inspired to decorate your own window so that across Greenmount we celebrate this Christmas with light and joy.

Throughout Advent there will also be a few stalls selling goods. This will take place on Saturday 5th and Saturday 12th of December between 10am and 1pm. The stalls will consist of:

  • Heart Art who are selling handmade textile products which can be found at Number 1 on your map (8 Whitebirk Close).
  • A Christmas Decoration stall can be found in the yard of The Old School and any unwanted Christmas decorations

can also be donated to this stall.

  • Home Made Goodies can be bought from a stall in front of the Church.
  • Hand crafted wooden Christmas Decorations which will be on sale at Number 14 on your map (7 Chisholme Close). All proceeds will go to our village’s Men’s Shed Group who have made the products. There are a selection of items for sale which can be ordered when visiting the stall any day throughout the whole of Advent.

We hope that this event, and many more activities which are being planned for you throughout December, will help in some way to brighten what has been a very difficult year for us all. Please support this event organised by volunteers who work hard to make Greenmount a wonderful place to live.

Wishing you a Joyous Advent

Jigsaw Library

Dear All,

I recently sent a message about a Jigsaw Library we are setting up at Greenmount Old School. As we are unable to open for Saturday Morning Drop In sessions nor run Jumble Sales, this is a good opportunity for residents to borrow a jigsaw for the small sum of £2. You can spend as long as you wish completing the puzzle and should you like another one, your next loan will cost you only £1.

This small fee enables us to raise some funds for The Old School which still has fixed running costs. More important this allows our residents some enjoyment in the winter months from a good old-fashioned pastime.

One of our Greenmount Helpers has kindly volunteered to run the Jigsaw Library, with other helpers also available to deliver your requests.

The lady in question is: Anke Harris who you can email directly at –  [email protected]  or text or call on  07825016950

(she would prefer a text, but she is also willing to take calls.

When you look at the photographs in the attached document, you will see that each jigsaw is numbered. Once you know which one you would like, you simply text or email Anke leaving your address and contact number and it can be delivered directly to you. Alternatively you could make arrangements with Anke to collect your jigsaw puzzle from the Old School on a Saturday morning between 10am – 11am letting her know in advance which number you have chosen.

I hope the above instructions are clear but should you have any problems please do not hesitate to contact me or speak directly to Anke for further clarification.

I hope you enjoy the Jigsaw Library and if you know of a neighbour who does not have access to email but may be interested in loaning a jigsaw, then please print out the pictures and show them what is on offer. This will help us to reach out further to our community. If anyone has any jigsaws they wish to donate to this scheme, these can be left in the foyer of The Old School between 9.30am and 11.45am any Saturday morning.

With kind regards,

Julie Southworth

Jigsaw Library and Good as New Toy Collection

Jigsaw Library

I am writing to inform you of a new project we are running from Greenmount Old School. As you will be aware we are unable to run the Saturday morning ‘Drop In’ sessions and the Jumble Sales, where we would normally raise funds for The Old School . We have decided to organise a Lending Library for the loan of Jigsaw Puzzles, for a small charge.

Some of you will be aware of the range of puzzles available at The Old School, and many more would be welcome. If you have any jigsaw puzzles you wish to pass on, these can be dropped off any Saturday morning from 9.30am – 11.30am  and left inside the porch. Please take care to follow social distancing rules when approaching the entrance and wear a mask. Thank you.

A member of our community has kindly offered to be our contact for the loan and distribution of the puzzles with GVC helpers assisting with deliveries.

More information about this new project will follow in due course, with photographs of jigsaw puzzles you can choose from.

Unwanted Good as New Toys

We are also collecting Good as New Toys for Father Wyatt to give out to deprived children in the inner city of Salford.  These can be left in the porch of the Old School on any Saturday morning from now until 5th December. The church usually have a Toy Service when these are collected, but of course they are unable to do that this year.

When dropping off toys in the porch, please observe the social distancing rules and wear a mask when entering the building. Thank you for your support.

Best wishes,

Julie Southworth
