Afternoon Tea 12th August

Dear All,

As you are aware we have been running a Cuppa and a Chat event throughout the Covid restrictions to help people in our community who have felt isolated. Numbers were limited to 15 in total, including helpers but we are now pleased to announce that through popular demand and the lifting of restrictions, we are going to continue with the Cuppa and Chat afternoons every Thursday from 2 – 4pm.

Our first afternoon in the larger hall of Greenmount Old School will take place on 12th August and will accommodate many more of our residents. In order to make this more special we are holding an Afternoon Tea and entertainment by our local band The Strummers.

We invite anyone, whether feeling lonely and isolated, retired or recently moved into Greenmount (or local area) interested in getting involved in the life of our village community or just wanting to get to know the people of Greenmount.

Booking is essential for this special opening event: please phone Jenny on 01204 882762 to book a place.

For those who can’t walk as far as the Old School we can provide transport there and back. Phone Christine on 0785 4260947 if you would like transport.

If you would like to go on the rota to provide transport please let Christine know.

Please be aware that the Cuppa and Chat will not be open on Thursday 5th August due to the Antique and Collector’s Fair taking place. More details of this will follow soon.

I look forward to you joining us for Afternoon Tea on the 12th August.

With kind regards,

Julie Southworth

Greenmount Flowers, Trees and Queen’s Green Canopy

Good Morning Everyone

To keep the growing areas around Greenmount looking fresh and healthy, whilst you are out on a walk could you pour a drinks bottle of water on one of these areas during the hot weather: Incredible Edible Plot by Church, Herb Garden in front of the Old School, Pre-School Flower bed on the Lines and the raised beds at Hollymount Orchard.

Also, to commemorate the life of Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh and The Queen’s Green Canopy, we have been offered free trees for planting.  If you would like one for your private garden area please reply to this email.

Thank you and continue to enjoy this fine spell of weather we are having

Woodland Management – CANCELLED

Paul is unavailable for this Friday and it looks like it may well be a scorcher!

So the proposed Woodland Management for this coming Friday is cancelled, we may try to fit in two days in September. There is no planned day for August.

Hopefully you will not be too disappointed and enjoy the good weather.

All the best,

Alistair

Redisher Woods Balsam Bash

Good Morning

If you fancy doing a bit of quick, easy and important conservation work this weekend then you have an opportunity to help out in Redisher Woods. A Himalayan Balsam Bashing session has been organised by the Friends of Redisher Woods, starting at 1:30pm on Sunday 18th July, on the bridge below the Redisher Lane entrance.  The sessions usually last approximately one and a half hours.

There will be some nettles in the way so have your arms covered and wear some gloves.

Thank you for your support.

Cuppa and a Chat developments

Dear All,

As we are expecting the lock down restrictions to lift later this month, it is time to discuss how we are going to adapt the ‘Cuppa and a Chat’ sessions.

These are going to continue as follows:

  • Thursday afternoons from 2 – 4pm
  • Still 3 volunteers to run each session (making a brew and chatting with visitors)

Things which will change and require further planning:

  • No restriction on numbers so larger room to be arranged
  • Tables and chairs will need to be set out and put away on a weekly basis.  Graham Haworth and Nicky have offered to do this every week but we will need a couple of people to cover when they have holidays, for example.
  • Invitation open to the whole community, this will mean picking up and dropping off residents who may require a lift
  • Once a month we will offer a little more than a chat, some form of entertainment e.g. (The Strummers are happy to play). Even an ‘Afternoon Tea’ is on the cards.

In order to help with the organisation of these sessions we are looking for someone or a team of people who would be willing to work together to do the planning. There are already people willing to give residents a lift to and from the Old School, but this may be something you wish to consider. And of course we have our regular helpers already, but we will need to know how regular you wish to help, weekly, fortnightly, monthly?

If you feel you are able to help in any way please come to a meeting at the Old School on Thursday 15th July at 4pm, just at the end of the weekly Cuppa and a Chat session. If you are unable to attend but would like to help in some way, then please email me your availability and how you wish to help.

Thank you once again for your help over the last four months, I look forward to seeing you next week. If you know of anyone who would like to be part of this volunteer group then please bring them along.

Kind regards,

Julie Southworth

Holcombe Moor firing this weekend

Good Morning

If anyone is planning on going up on Holcombe Moor or Bull Hill this weekend please note that the MOD will be Live Firing on the Holcombe Hill Training Area between 8am and 4:30pm on both Saturday (10th) and Sunday (11th).

During these times the red flags will be flying and the range area, including the public rights of way across it is strictly OUT OF BOUNDS to the public.

Please help to keep open normal access to this area by respecting these temporary closures.

New bench

Great news!

Another bench has been installed in Greenmount Sidings. This one took just an hour to install and then 15 minutes to drink the coffee kindly provided by The Hub.

This is now the fifth bench that we have recently installed, manufactured by the Bury Greenwood Group and paid for by our ongoing fundraising activities and applications.

The next one to do is the revised backed edition which has not yet been built and will be installed opposite the Pre-School garden near to Station Rd.
