Good morning, everyone.

Due to a recent change in the law, to vote in elections in England this May, you will now need to show photo ID at the polling station.

Passports, driving licences and older person’s bus passes are among the allowed documents.

Note: The postal voting system has not changed.

If you have no suitable photo ID to vote in person at a poling station you can apply for free voter ID now, the Government portal for applying for Voter ID is now open. Note: You must be registered to vote before you apply.

Any residents who require a Voter Authority Certificate should visit the Government website in the first instance – https://www.gov.uk/apply-for-photo-id-voter-authority-certificate

If you are having issues with the portal or need additional support, please ask them to contact Bury Council’s elections team on [email protected] or call 0161 253 5252.

The Electoral Commission have produced a booklet for electors containing everything they need to know about Voter ID and the May 2023 local elections (attached).

Please could you please share this information with your friends and family to ensure that they are aware of the new requirements.

Best wishes

Woodland Management

Hi All,

Happy New Year to your all.

Paul and I met yesterday and have proposed the following dates for the next Woodland Management sessions.

Neither of us have a free Friday in January so the dates are:

  • Friday 17th February meeting at 10am (location likely to be Old Kays Park)
  • Friday 24th March meeting at 10am location unknown

The locations may change as the current very wet weather means there is a strong likelihood that a storm may uproot (or bring down) trees in our area. I will confirm the locations nearer the time.

All the best,

Alistair

Dear All,

Please see below the latest news from the Tottington Centre below.

Kind regards

Julie

News From The Tottington Centre, December 2022.

Fundraising Events of 2022 – A Huge Thank You.

  • You bought books from us when we held our two book sales this year, including Bury’s Biggest Book Sale. We hope you loved the books you bought.
  • You supported our Village Fayre way back in the Summer.
  • You guessed the wine with our “experts.” Cheers!
  • You showed your general knowledge at our Fun Quiz Night. We hope you will show it off again in 2023.
  • You bought Christmas books, jigsaws and gifts at our Christmas Craft Fayre. Thank you for supporting this. Sue and Debbie would like to thank everyone who bought jewellery from their stall. You helped them raise £105 for Francis House Children’s Hospice.
  • You bought raffle tickets for our Christmas hamper. Let’s hope you win!
  • You saved your used/empty inkjet cartridges. We turned them into cash!

All these fundraising events have helped us with our running costs. What can we say  except “Thank You” – as without your support we would not be open.

The 100 Club 2020 – Ongoing Fundraising.

  • Thank you so much for continuing to support The Tottington Centre’s 100 Club. You can join this fundraising draw by paying £5 a month or £60 a year, whichever suits you best. Packs are available via email: i[email protected] and we will send them out to you or pop in for a pack. The draw takes place on the third Friday of the month and the winners are announced on our social media platforms, our website and in this newsletter.
  • Latest results for the November draw:
  • 1st   prize Number 51 wins £127.50
  • 2nd  prize Number 22 wins £63.75
  • 3rd  prize Number 63 wins £21.25

If you are one of the lucky winners, your cheque will be in the post and the cheque can be deposited into your bank account via the Post Office.

So Many Other Ways You Have Supported Us – Thank You

  • It’s not just your money we are after! We are so grateful for all the books/jigsaws you have donated – you might see them on the shelves or at our book sales.
  • You have also donated prizes for our raffles and our tombolas. Thank you – you may even have won them back!
  • Thank you for supporting the children’s activities term time and in the holidays. It is our way of giving back something to our community and the volunteers love this work.
  • Thank you for popping in, browsing and borrowing books.
  • Thank you for supporting the Tea Room.
  • A big thank you also needs to go to all our tenants for their continued support – without them we could not pay the bills.
  • A thank you to all the groups who rent rooms from us and to you for joining these groups – all the rent from this again helps us pay our bills.

You have also supported us to help others

  • Porch Boxes Collections in 2022. We held our car park collections in the Spring, Summer, at Harvest time and on December 3 for a Christmas collection. Porch Boxes would like to thank you for continuing to support these car park collections and for the daily donations.
  • The Rotary Club of Tottington and West Bury would like to thank you for your kindness and generosity, donating 330 coats from all across the borough.
  • Supporting Knit and Natter. You bought goodies from them throughout the year: at Easter, for Halloween and at their stall at our Christmas Fayre. Knit and Natter divide monies raised between Bury Hospice and The Tottington Centre. They would like to thank you for this.

A thank you to all our volunteers too:

  • to Sunnybank for keeping our car park and grounds clear
  • to the Gardening and Buildings Team, the flowers look fabulous and the repainting of the outside looks really smart
  • to Matt for keeping our website up to date
  • to the Fundraising Team as without them we would have no money!
  • to the Publicity Team, without them you would not know what is happening at the Centre
  • to the Finance Team for balancing the books
  • to the Activities Team for their work with our youngest members
  • to the volunteers who work in the Centre each day as without them The Tottington Centre could not open.

A huge and final thank you to all of you – in whatever capacity – who have supported us in so many ways over this last year.
