Draft Housing Strategy for Bury

Earlier this year, Bury Council commissioned Campbell Tickell Management Consultancy to develop a Housing Strategy for the Borough, to meet the needs of different sections of the population at different stages of their lives.

A draft housing strategy is now available and the Council is currently undertaking a programme of formal public consultation including survey based consultation and webinar based consultation, you can find out how to have your say or attend the online webinar sessions by clicking here

The Local Government Boundary Review for Bury

We are asking local people and organisations for their help to draw up new ward boundaries across Bury Council. The commission has also announced that it is minded to recommend that the council should have 51 councillors in the future.

We are now drawing up a new pattern of wards to accommodate 51 councillors, we need your help to tell where the new boundaries should be drawn. There is plenty of information to help you submit your suggestion, click here to have your say.

Bury 2030

Bury 2030 started last year in 2020 with a “Big Conversation” in which 1,100 people from around the borough gave us their thoughts, wishes and concerns. This feedback has helped to produce this latest plan – but if it is to succeed, it must have widespread support from all sections of the community: residents and businesses, young and old.

That is why we’re inviting everyone to join and and help us produce a plan that is truly backed by Bury, click here to have your say on your future.

North Manchester Hospital Redevelopment Plans

Exciting proposals to transform the North Manchester General Hospital site to deliver ambitious community regeneration opportunities are now available for public consultation.

Manchester City Council, Manchester Health and Care Commissioning and Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust are working together on a vision for a new sustainable health campus at North Manchester General Hospital which will be at the heart of the community, to read more and get involved click here.

The Voice, Walking Activities, Xmas Gifts

Dear All,

There has been an extension on the Advent Windows, due to the circuit being very popular. This means that they will continue to be illuminated until the 1st January 2021 and not 24th December 2020, as was originally planned.

Please find attached a leaflet informing you of the many activities which you can take part in during the Christmas season. Many of you may have received this in your letterbox in the past few days, but please forward to friends and family who may be interested.

Also attached is the Christmas edition of The Voice to keep you up to date with everything that is going on in the village.

Still available for sale are wooden items that our Shed Group have made, be they snowmen, reindeer, Christmas trees, bowls. Ideal for a handmade Christmas gift. You will find their stall at 7 Chisholme Close, (number 14 on the Advent Window trail).

My I take this opportunity to wish you all a very peaceful Christmas and a safe and happy year ahead.

With kind regards

Thank you from our local charities

Dear All,

There is so much good work going on in support of those in need this year, which has proved to be very difficult one for many more people. Your support is very much appreciated.

Porch Boxes collection on Saturday 12th December

Thank you so much to everyone who donated to the Tottington Christmas collection for Porch Boxes. We received a massive 1865 items. Many local people will benefit from your generosity. Once again, thank you. 🎅🏻🎄

Diane

Just a reminder that it is Brandlesholme Community Foodbank, NOT Porch Boxes,  who are collecting egg boxes and shopping bags. Thank you.

The Little Fir Tree Appeal

You may remember a few weeks ago I sent a link for Just Giving, which has been set up by a few community groups (ourselves included) to support our local Foodbanks to deliver a ‘Christmas Food Box’ to those in need. This has enabled those of you who are unable to take goods to foodbanks yourself to make a donation on line.

I am pleased to report that £945 has been raised so far and wish to thank you for your support. Should you still wish to donate you can do so on this link   https://www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/little-fir-tree

One of the community leaders has been in touch with the publishers of “The Little Fir Tree” and has some of these books for sale at the price of £9.95. They have agreed that £5 of each sale will go towards our funding for local foodbanks. If you are interested in buying a book you can contact Rob from the Rammy Men Group on the following link  https://rammymen.org then click on ‘Little Fir Tree Appeal for more information.

Urgent request for Teenage Christmas Gifts

Please see attached flyer for more detail on how to support this worthy cause.

With Best Wishes,

Next Woodland Management

Hi Folks,

Paul Robinson is unavailable next Friday, so we have agreed to meet up on
Friday 18th December.

The plan is to meet at 10am at the Station Road entrance to Greenmount
Sidings and to clear the path from The Hub as far as we can towards
Tottington.

Hope you can join us.

In previous years we have gone to The Hub for a coffee and a chat on the
last event before Christmas. Let us hope the restrictions change and we can
do something, but…

Hope to see you then,

All the best,

Alistair

Advent Windows 2020

Dear Greenmount Community,

As the Christmas Season is fast approaching, members of Greenmount United Reformed Church and other members of our community have been busy decorating Advent Windows. From the 1st December, as you walk around the village you will begin to see the streets brightening up with displays of various themes from the Twelve Days of Christmas to A Winter Wonderland.

Attached to this email you will find a map with the addresses of 24 houses where you will find a decorated window display. When you follow the map, look for the Angel in each of the numbered windows and find the letter attached, then record it on the sheet provided. Copies of the map are also available in the plastic containers outside church and the Old School.

We hope that you will not only enjoy looking at the windows, but that you will be inspired to decorate your own window so that across Greenmount we celebrate this Christmas with light and joy.

Throughout Advent there will also be a few stalls selling goods. This will take place on Saturday 5th and Saturday 12th of December between 10am and 1pm. The stalls will consist of:

  • Heart Art who are selling handmade textile products which can be found at Number 1 on your map (8 Whitebirk Close).
  • A Christmas Decoration stall can be found in the yard of The Old School and any unwanted Christmas decorations

can also be donated to this stall.

  • Home Made Goodies can be bought from a stall in front of the Church.
  • Hand crafted wooden Christmas Decorations which will be on sale at Number 14 on your map (7 Chisholme Close). All proceeds will go to our village’s Men’s Shed Group who have made the products. There are a selection of items for sale which can be ordered when visiting the stall any day throughout the whole of Advent.

We hope that this event, and many more activities which are being planned for you throughout December, will help in some way to brighten what has been a very difficult year for us all. Please support this event organised by volunteers who work hard to make Greenmount a wonderful place to live.

Wishing you a Joyous Advent

Julie Southworth
